Obviously this isn’t really a bright orange owl! The waterhole at Etosha is lit up during the night so you can sit on the benches and just let nature come to you. This for me was one of the hi-lights of the trip. I sat up till 3:30am and not one dull moment! Black Rhinos, Elephants, Zebra’s, Hyena, Giraffe, Jackals and at 3:00am a Lioness! This Giant Eagle Owl kept me company most of the night occasionally pouncing on something or flying to catch the occasional large moth. This was about the only shot I digiscoped during the whole trip. It took the floodlights and an exposure of between a second or two (which explains the orange!) to get these record shots but fortunately it was a very still bird.
Digiscoped with a Nikon Coolpix 995 and a Swarovski 80HD Scope.
