Etosha Waterhole at Night

Etosha, Namibia

Saturday 28th April 2007

The waterhole at Etosha is lit up during the night so you can sit on the benches and just let nature come to you. This for me was one of the hi-lights of the trip. I sat up till 3:30am and not one dull moment! Black Rhinos, Elephants, Zebra’s, Hyena, Giraffe, Jackals, Water Dikkop, Doublebanded Sandgrouse and at 3:00am a Lioness! The Sociable Weaver nest above my bench chattered all night with their calls and a Giant Eagle Owl also kept me company, occasionally pouncing on something or flying to catch the occasional large moth. I took the shots with the floodlights and long exposures which explains the orange colour and the lack of sharpness. They are obviously just record shots but some great memories for me and anyone else who has been to Etosha.

Digiscoped with a Nikon Coolpix 995 and a Swarovski 80HD Scope.
