Whilst being diverted due to road works, spotted a Stoat in full ermine run over the B9113 and up along the bank, stuck out like a sore thumb as there wasn't any snow to be seen.

Ermine stoat at Kinnordy this morning.

Also saw between Kinnordy & Lintrathen a GIANT hare!! This is the second time I've seen a scarily big hare - (and I mean big, me and my faither confused it for a deer for a minute!!) Is there an upper size limit for Brown hares, or do they just keep growing, or are we merely hallucinating?!

They laid some spawn then have gone again! Think they've realised it was still a bit nippy!

Lots of Brown Hare activity in the feilds around Memus, having vanished into the wood for the winter now they are back. I have not seen any major boxing yet but have not had time to watch for long yet.

Dog otter again in front of Gullery Hide at kinnordy and another Otter in a little burn south of Kirriemuir about 15 mins later. Also met a hedgehog which ambled along, sniffed at my shoe and walked right past my rather surprised spaniel.

17 July 2011. Pine Marten

Postby KDO » Mon Jul 18, 2011 4:00 am

17/07/2011 About 2030 hours. Pine Marten. North West Corner of Cotton Wood at the entrance road to Cotton Farm at A9 (South) just west of Broxden Junction, Perth. Looking to cross road northwards towards Cotton Cottages but seemed put off by volume of traffic- very busy. Paced around a few feet away on two occasions before returning to spot from which it appeared. Looked in good condition although misty scar tissue covering right eye.
Corroborated.

Polecats

Postby burnie » Tue Aug 16, 2011 7:11 pm

Finally got a brief glimpse of a live Polecat as apposed to the road traffic accidents, though this one nearly ended up under my wheels. It and a blonde(!!)ferret were on the A92 near the Gorilla Corrosion factory last night, this is the second ferret I've seen,so I'm guessing that the Polecats are from ferret stock rather than "wild".Nice to see all the same.

Sadly there's a squashed polecat in exactly the same place I saw the live one.

Stoat, The Slunks 8th Sept 2011

Postby joncook » Fri Sep 09, 2011 12:47 pm

On the island (at high tide) with the fallen tree at the Slunks yesterday, a group of 6 Pied wagtails fluttering over the long grass. Turned out they were mobbing a Stoat, which after a couple of half-hearted attempts to catch one of its tormentors, gave up and swam 20m or so across to the "mainland". Had no idea that Stoats would swim.

Went to Balgavies this afternoon in between dodging showers. Watched an otter hunting from in front of the hide, round past the lillies and over to the island for around 20 minutes, totally unconcerned. Also had a spotted flycatcher outside the hide for the 2 hrs i was there.

25 Bottlenose Dolphins including 3 juveniles feeding mostly just off Carlingheugh Bay today between 11:30 and 14:15. They came from and returned to the direction of the Tay Estuary in several smaller groups.

The Basking Shark sighting reported last month at the Arbroath Cliffs has been confirmed.

Two Grey Seals just off Elliot Links before the rocky section at around NO618375 for several hours today. Not seen any (live) ones around Arbroath for the last few years but heard a number of reports of them at the cliffs and in the harbour over the last three weeks.

Six Bottlenose Dolphins feeding in the same area 14:00-14:45
