Hi

It's a quiet time of year so I hope you don't mind me posting this;

A Scottish parliamentary petition, aimed at voters in Scotland, and calling for the licensing of gamebird shooting has just been launched by the Scottish Raptor Study Group:
https://www.parliament.scot/GettingInvo ... ns/PE01615

Sporting estates have had decades to put their house in order, but protected raptors continue to be illegally killed in large numbers, fragile peatland habitats continue to be burned, and mountain hare populations are decimated, as our uplands become managed ever more intensively in a bid to allow ever larger bags of grouse to be shot.

Self-regulation by gamebird shoots has patently failed, so it is long overdue that these were regulated, as happens in most other countries in Europe. Those who manage their land legally and sustainably have nothing to fear from a licensing system, but it is time that those who continue to break our laws and routinely damage our uplands faced the threat of removal of the right to shoot.

RSPB Scotland strongly supports this petition, and it repeats calls we have been making for several years. We have just published a blog that provides a bit more background.

http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/ourwor ... lated.aspx
Please sign this petition, and share as widely as possible on social media. Please also encourage your friends and family to write to their MSP saying why they support this petition and to ask them to do likewise.

Many thanks,

Simon

Med Gull

Postby Alex Shepherd » Fri Jul 22, 2016 11:44 pm

Adult Med Gull still at roost in front of the play park at West Links, Arbroath at 2015 then flew along to the beach opposite the Minature Railway.

One Purple Sandpiper was on the west breakwater at Arbroath Harbour, best viewed from the sewage works at Inchcape Park at high tide today, 1530.

No sign of any auks at Red Head on 21/7/2016 but some male Corn Buntings singing during the day along the coastal path from Auchmithie and Puffins seen north of Auchmithie Harbour.

Not a great video but I hope it lets you see what to look for if you try to find it, https://youtu.be/zDGUsCrBG08 it's larger than the BH Gulls, white wings, the beak is thicker, the head is darker than the fading BH and the legs are brighter
