Corn Bunting and Little Gulls

Postby Alex Shepherd » Mon Apr 03, 2017 11:14 pm

A single Corn Bunting seen today near Easthaven, had a metal ring I couldn't read or photograph.

Still 18 Little Gulls on the Island Pond Monikie. Note access around most of the pond is closed for two months and there is now someone on the car park gate collecting the £2.70 charge from now throughout the summer.

Ring Ouzel and a Swallow

Postby Alex Shepherd » Thu Apr 06, 2017 7:21 pm

Two Ring Ouzel, not one as previously thought at the east end of Lochlee, viewed from the track around a third of the way up the hill, male and female from photos. Bizarrely one blurry photo I took showed one beside a Red-legged Partridge. A few Wheatear were in the same area and a few more seen from the car. Migvie Pools had two Snipe, two Redshank and Red Grouse, Oystercatcher and Lapwing. A few Sand Martins were around the nest site in the Glen and Dippers and Grey Wagtails at some of the bridges. No Common Sandpipers yet and no Red Kites seen.

Near Brechin, two Little Ringed Plover a single Swallow.

16 Puffins 120 metres offshore to the north of Auchmithie today. Too far for photography, seen from Maiden Stane with bins or from Auchmithie village with a scope. May come closer in on a larger tide or just high tide?

Also on the water 3 adult Shags and on the beach a pair of Stonechats still around. One or two Tree Sparrows in the car park with the House Sparrows.

2 Chiffchaffs at Keptie Pond this afternoon, one appears to be the Siberian (no call heard), the other a common. Unusual for the pond 2 Great Black-backed Gulls along with 6 Lesser Black-backed which are a constant.

One Swallow at seaward houses at Easthaven, looked to be staying around, feeding on the beach.

Iceland Gull

Postby Alex Shepherd » Tue Apr 11, 2017 7:27 pm

One Iceland Gull at the mouth of the Lunan today, viewed sitting on the sea and in flight, can't make my mind up if it's a 1st winter as seen or a 3rd winter in a distant video. Also around 30 Red-throated Divers, a similar number of Long-tailed Ducks, 8 adult Cormorants, 3 Shags and one adult Gannet.

For a second day in my garden, a Clearwing Budgie, basically yellow on top and green below, feeding well on the ground and sometimes feeders and reacts to other birds alarms. Photo and video on my blog.
