Two new garden ticks for me 1: singing chiffchaff(welcome, first seen in 50 years).2: magpie(less welcome but not unexpected) Also party of 4 swifts from colony on priory place, north Esk road and now usual influx of up to 15 rooks and jackdaws when fat put out! Changed days indeed, on Broomfield road Montrose.

Cuckoo - Barry Buddon

Postby Alex Shepherd » Thu May 25, 2017 11:10 am

A Cuckoo was calling near the Yeomanry Ponds at Barry Buddon camp on Wednesday evening, not texted as red flags flying. Heard from Carnoustie Golf Links near Barry Halt where 37 species were recorded if I count the Cuckoo including, Blackcap, Sedge Warbler and Whitethroat.

Corn Bunting Survey this morning on Seafield, 4 singing males which is similar for the first survey last year, Lapwing nesting at two sites, many Skylarks, Whitethroats, two Grey Partridge at separate locations and perhaps unfortunately a Peregrine. 4 Puffins almost on the rocks at Auchmithie at 1000.

Murton

Postby Alex Shepherd » Sat May 27, 2017 11:42 am

Still 11 Black-tailed Godwits at Murton on Friday along with Little Ringed Plover, Gadwall, Shelduck, Little Grebe, Lapwing and Greylags. The Mute Swans have 2 cygnets which were the only young birds seen.

Little Ringed Plovers distracting what may have just been a curious Black-headed Gull, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBXfcAryJKc&t=18s

Spoonbills feeding at Maryton Ditch on Friday, actually in a channel a fair bit out, video here, https://youtu.be/UJ1filw3UKs
