fairly new to this and it seems i was to eager with my description of what i took to be a serin yesterday i posted a picture although poor could srg or some one confirm is it then a yellow hammer sorry for the confusion still learning and enjoying

Hi Brian, it is indeed a male Yellowhammer, a fairly common bird round these parts (unlike the Serin!). If you are fairly new to the game, I would suggest subscribing to some of the mags out there designed to help with ID etc, particularly Birdwatching, and Birdwatch. I would also recommend the Collins Bird Guide by Mullarney, Svensson, Zetterstrom and Grant, as being the most complete, accurate, and helpful field guide you could use - take it with you, and take a notebook also to jot all your observations down, and keep taking pics of everything! (P.S. There had only ever been 7 records of Serin in the whole of Scotland up to 2007!)
