2 (of about 100) Black Headed Gulls at Grassy Beach , Broughty Ferry with black heads. Is this usual?

that's about the usual percentage. There's always a few get their new feathers earlier than the rest. :roll:

Richard Bramhall has found a 1st winter Glaucius Gull at Arbroath Harbour behind the bowling alley late this afternoon.

Monday 4th February 2008 - 1st Winter Glaucous Gull

Date & Time: Monday 4th February 2008 - 2:35pm-3:45 at least
Species: Glaucous Gull, R.B. Merganser, R.T.Diver
Details:The 1st winter Glaucous Gull was present again at the Arbroath Esplanade from 2:35pm till 3:45pm at least.
Though there was no sign of it from 9:30 till 10:30 this morning from the esplande through to Victoria Park.
A Red Throated Diver and a Red Breasted Merganser were in the actual harbour in amongst the boats and showing really well today and also yesterday afternoon.

Ad Glauc in ploughed field with Herring Gulls today at 13:30ish. Just northwest of House of Dun at approx... NO655615.

Yesterday 6 Snow Buntings on Private Farmland southwest of Brechin.

Avocet feeding this morning at Rossie Island (at 08:15) Bird was well out at the mouth of the creek and was on the eastern side (nearest path from Bridge End Garage) almost opposite car park area.

Seen this am. by Kris Gibb (Lothians ) just West of the Visitors Centre - standing at one point side by side !

12th. Feb. 1415pm. GLAUCOUS GULL IST, Winter , Seen by Kris at Arbroath Harbour , but at 1415pm. flew of in direction of Deils Head ! Arbroath cliffs -- it is still about !

Avocet at Rossie Spit today (Wed 13/02/08)

The Avocet was at the extreme north end of Rossie Spit this morning, with Teal and Redshanks.
Also, well out in the middle of Montrose Basin; 39 Greater Scaup.
These Scaup are relatively rare as a wintering flock and are well worth a mention, especially to visitors who generally don't seem to know the're about all winter.

Today from 12pm-2pm at Wellbank Farm. A Kestrel, a pair of Grey Partridges, Wrens, Blackbirds, Blue & Great Tits, Chaffinches, 2 pairs of Mistle Thrushes, a couple of Buzzards, a small skein of about 30 Pink-footed Geese, about 100+ Woodpigeons and the bonus being about 200+ Bramblings.

1st win also still at Arbroath yesterday afternoon...anyone seen it today, same bird?

Lesser Yellowlegs and Avocet both at Rossie Spit today, but coming and going. Also in the area, 4 Bullfinches at Old Montrose Pier car park, 2 Grey partridges on the road to Rossie, and one Great Crested Grebe on Forfar Loch.

The Lesser Yellowlegs was by the boats at Mops pool this Morning the Avocet was in the same area.
Also Green Sandpiper over in the Mill Burn at the Slunks (follow signs to Shelduck Hide).

Green Woodpecker, Gt Spotted Woodpecker, Tree creeper, Great, Blue, Coal and Long tailed Tits, Siskin (male and female), Blackbird, Chaffinch, Robin, Goldcrest, Tree Pipit.
By 17.00hrs sun was setting, fog descended and temperature plummeted to minus 2 degrees. Very picturesque but bitterly cold.

A lady rang me up today and reported a Rough Legged Buzzard in the Linlathan Park area of Dundee, near the Dighty Burn. If anyone gets a chance and are in the area, please check it out and let us know. Been about for a couple of days apparently. Thanks.
