April 20th. GOLDEN EAGLE - RING OUZEL- COMMON SANDPIPERS

April 20th. 10-30am. -- 1400hrs. GOLDEN EAGLE 1 -- RING OUZELS--3 COMMON SANDPIPERS 2 ETC.

On the Angus and /Dundee Bird Club Spring outing to an Angus Glen , the above were recorded.

April 20th. 10am. OSPREY 1 Seen from the Gullery Hide at Loch of Kinnordy R.S.P.B. Reserve.

Den of Ogil Sat 12.30 hrs 320 Fieldfare Grey Wagtail, Dipper, Wheatear, Osprey,Green Woodpecker, Willow Warbler. Treecreeper and Ring Ouzel, all present.

1 x Osprey over N Esk between Kinnaber and Morphie weir on several occasions between 1000 and 1300.
Also, 20 plus swallows and common sandpiper.

Spring has sprung!

Nothing much of particular interest in general, but first sightings in Dundee for me of

Coot (at Stobsmuir {swannie} ponds)
Redpoll (in trees to the west of the road bridge landfall near the Gala Casino)

and my first Willow Warbler of the year at Baxter Park.

Blackcap (Male) in Dundee Botanic Gardens.

Just seen White Tailed Eagle at Kinnordy, at East end. It was apparently seen yesterday as well.

17.30 monday 28th April. Short-eared Owl seen less than ten feet away, rising out of Rape field. Ethie Mains down track towards Newmill. Also my first wheatear this year. 50 swallows and one housemartin over irrigation pond near Newmill

Grasshopper Warbler Mon 28th

Heard my first Grasshopper Warbler reeling near the centre yesterday (Mon) also first Arctic and Common terns were in the basin as well.

ICELAND GULL (probably 2nd win/sum) flew NW with other gulls over private farmland north of House of Dun (approx NO660623) at 0615 this morning + 8 Golden Plovers in the area
Whitethroat singing on nearby farmland + 2 House Martins

1st sum male 'greenland' Wheatear along the path south of Mains of Usan farm, also 19 Knot, Whimbrel + 2 House Martins in the area, a Bonxie flew North at c1030, 15+ Bottle-nosed Dolphins in 3 groups showing well offshore.

Not a lot in Lunan bay but 10+ RT Divers and 8+ Long-tailed Ducks (mostly sum plum) still hanging around + a couple of Sandwich Terns

Common Sand, House Martin, Osprey and 2 Sandwich Terns at Montrose Basin from vis Cantre

lots of Swallows around now with up to 10 seen at many farms in the area

Yesterday - 2 Whimbrel just North of Carnoustie

Forties Road,Baldovie Ind Estate, Dundee.
3 Swallows(my first this year for Dundee), 2 Grey Wagtails, 2 Buzzards & 1 Kestrel.

Mains of Usan - at least two chiffchaffs calling in trees, male blackcap at outflow of upper dam,with yellow hammers, reed buntings, corn bunting, skylarks,pied wagtails and meadow pipits all in the area of the lower mill dam. Small flock of purple sandpipers on offshore rocks and one manx shearwater seen passing close in. Kestrel moving northwards at speed along the coast.
Seawatch at Fishtown of Usan for one hour 14.00 - 15.00hrs bagged around 40 manx shearwaters, with hundreds of gannet, guillemot, kittiwake all flying north and around 12 red throated divers mostly flying south. Also six sandwich terns and one common tern.

Circuit round Den Of Ogil Rsvr.

30 species, including lots of calling Willow Warbler, loads of Swallows and Sand Martins, A pair of Grey Wagtails, one Common Sandpiper and 4 different species of Raptor.

1 Swift over Montrose this evening

A half hour seawatch off Mains of Usan from 1630 produced 8 Manxys, 1 Puffin, 11 Sandwich Terns etc etc etc
