150 + Canada Geese at Backwater this morning.

8 Barnacle Geese.

Also a fantsatic Tawny Owl right beside the road who wouldn't stop posing.

Balgavies later. Quite a few Pochards now. Someone in the hide had mentioned (in the book) a 'turtle' on the dead tree to the left of the hide...... and hes right!! Someone needs to go and see what he is up to !! :)

Angus smashes Scottish record!

Postby Clive McKay » Sat Sep 13, 2008 5:49 pm

Looking through the Birds of Scotland 3, it appears that yesterday's Mipit passage of 7,665 >S at Carnoustie is the biggest on record. I'm sure that the actual number of birds was probabaly in excess of 10,000, but it's hard to count everything when they're passing over the sea, over your head and up to 1 km inland all at the same time!

One up for Angus!

Postby Mark Caunt » Sun Sep 14, 2008 6:41 pm

Date & Time: Sunday 14th September 2008
Species: Barred Warbler, Icterine Warbler, Red Backed Shrike
Details: Later this afternoon there was a Barred Warbler and an Icterine Warbler in the gardens at the Coast Guard Houses just south of Auchmithie and the north end of Castlesea Bay. I spotted the Barred, told the house owner who was washing his car and he kindly let me in his garden to have a look. It was then that I saw the Icky. MAP LOCATION: 'CLICK ME'
The Red Backed Shrike was still at Springfield Park, Arbroath this afteroon. And a 95% sure sighting of another Icky though very skulking and couldnt get on it for sure.

Poor vismig today, but a few grounded migrants in ditch south of Hatton waste water plant: 1 cracking male Common Redstart, 1 Common Whitethroat, 1 Willow Warbler. No Honey Buzzards dirfted over. Bearing in mind what was seen elsewhere, I probably should've had a look in the bushes at East Haven!
