Sparrowhawk - 25th January
Female Sparrowhawk - perched next to my birdtable.
I had just sat down to do the Big Garden Birdwatch count and was wondering why there was nothing to be seen at the feeders when I spotted the Sparrowhawk on the hedge.

Re: JANUARY 2009 BIRD SIGHTINGS - ADD CURRENT SIGHTINGS HERE
Has anyone heard of Ravens being seen in towns before? I was sitting outside doing my Birdwatch when 6 crows flew past but 4 of them seemed to be mobbing the first 2 which were slightly larger. I didn't get a good enough view of the head or tail to be 100% about identification and was just wondering what other people thought.

Fulmars
Just to add to Bob's report above, Fulmars were settling on Elephant Rock, Usan on 17th Jan 09.
Nicola - Most Ravens are in the Angus Glens and are not far away from starting to nest, some may visit coastal areas in autumn/ winter, what you may have witnessed were Rooks harassing Carrion Crows.

Saw my first Grey Wagtail of the year yesterday - beside a busy hot dog kiosk in Dundee's Dryburgh Industrial Estate !! - What's going on? e.g. flocks of Long Tailed Tits in Dundee city centre - What next? Peregrine Falcons on Cox's Stack? Pelicans at Broughty Ferry beach?
