Saturday 3rd January
Tentsmuir - Tayport to Eden Estuary.

Crow, Herring Gull, Common Gull, Great Black Backed Gull, Oystercatcher, Dunlin, Eider (At least 2-3000 on Tay Estuary), Mute Swan, Turnstone, Shellduck, Bar tailed godwit. ( At Tayport end).

2 greenshank, red breasted merganser, goldeneye off observation point.

Stonechat and bullfinch observed from Kinshaldy to Eden estuary. Many gulls out at sea but did not manage to spot Scoters or long tailed duck (which may have been due to low tide).

Also lucky enough to see a Goshawk (somewhere in Tenstmuir!). A good days birding.

Spoonbills at RSPB Loch of Strathbeg (Sat June 13)

Postby HarryB » Sun Jun 14, 2009 6:11 am

Three Spoonbill at RSPB Loch of Strathbeg yesterday. Apparently, there was one bird on Friday and it was joined by another two there yesterday. Showing very well from Starnafin Farm itself.
Also three Bar-tailed Godwits and numerous Dunlin, about 30 Ringed Plover, +Redshanks, etc. Question is: are these returning non-breeders, or are they still on their way to the Arctic?
It now seems too late for heading north, but it's anyone's guess.
Needless to say; there were the usual, well known, Marsh Harriers about the area.

Fantastic views of a Long-eared Owl in our garden in Alyth today 2nd October. Also while playing golf at Glenisla golf course, young Little Grebes being fed by adults - is this unusual so late in the year? 4 swallows on wires near the golf course probably passing through.
