i passed the rottal common gull colony today and noticed a big increase in birds present, most were just resting but it looks like the breeders are doing well,iv,e checked my bird report books but cant find a figure for breeding pairs here,a small black headed gull colony is forming a few fields away and the gulls are copying the common gulls sitting in open fields on nests

Bee Eater at Windyhills Farm Sunday May 17

Postby HarryB » Mon May 18, 2009 6:32 am

Bee Eater seen at Windyhills Farm, by Stuart R Green yesterday at aprox 14.00.
Unfortunately, by the time others got to the site, the bird had just flown off (south).
Despite a lot of further searching, the bird was not re-found.
Apologies for late reporting of this bird. My PC was down and came back on line this morning.

Nothing as exciting as a bee eater or montagu's harrier, but a walk along the Lurgies last night did offer up a very satisfying pair of common sandpipers and sedge warbler calling from sluice.
