More Quails.
It was a nice calm morning , so I took a wee drive around listening for Quails.
I picked up 3 in quite a short route. Remember Clive McKay found 7 in a small area
around Kingoldrum last year. This must be a well under recorded species.
Sightings as follows - 1 Knockhill House, Newport, FiFE, NO423249.
1 Balnuith, Tealing,Dundee, NO394375.
1 Tealing 403384.

2 Quail calling near Rossie School this afternoon, take the Rossie Rd opposite the Craig road end and they are at the second gate on the left.

Species: Whimbrel, Greenshank, Osprey
Details: There were 3x Whimbrel from the Old Pier at Montrose Basin Friday afternoon at 2:30ish. Also 5x Greenshank seen and Osprey on the usual tree perch out in the basin.

Male and female peregrine
27th July
A pair of peregrines sitting together not that far up on a window sill on the Alexander Street multis in Dundee this morning. Just wish I had a big lensed camera would have got some nice pictures. Seem to be seeing peregrines all over Dundee at the moment.

Details: There is a Quail calling in the wheat fields about quarter of a mile North of Baldoukie Farm (near Tannadice) this morning.
(Was put on the ADBC Grapevine at 9:30am.)

29th July RM CONDOR East grid 626430 2 Wheatears on the airfield returning from nesting grounds in north probably moved on by tomorrow. Pair of Kestrels showing their juv flying skills. After they landed the Juve decided to chase crows what fun

29th July My garden Muirfield Place afternoon. Had a visit from a Hummingbird Hawk Moth hovering over the petunias. Last year also had visit but that time was hovering over the Jasmin,the gards is my wifes hard work so have to thank her for that. Hoping next year will get another visit to see if there is a pattern

July 29th Montrose Basin

Otter seen off Old Pier at 12.50pm.
Also off old pier and further up river:
12 common sandpiper, 100+ lapwing, oystercatcher

Mute swan, shelduck, ruddy shedluck, common tern, arctic tern, osprey, eider, red breasted merganser, heron, curlew, oystercatcher

Glen Clova, Glen Doll, Corrie Fee and Mayar
Glen Clova - red legged partridge, buzzard, jay, meadow pipit
Glen Doll - chaffinch, coal tit
Corrie Fee and on tops by Mayar - loads of meadow pipit, raven, wheatear

GOLDEN EAGLE POISONED IN GLEN ESK

A monitored Golden Eagle was found poisoned on Millden estate, Glen Esk this month. Protest march up Glen Esk? See general discussion.

31 July 2009 Gayfield grid 640413 1000 hrs
Quiet walk along Gayfield behind the football club 40 Golden Plover, 7 Turnstone in breeding plumage, 11 Redshank,
14 Curlew, 4 Cormorants, 5 Eider, 9 Sandwich Terns, and mixture of Herring, Black Headed , Lesser and Great Black Back gulls.
Also at Condor found another fledged Buzzard being shown the ropes by parents, that brings total of 5, one better than last year
