Re: JANUARY 2019 ANGUS BIRD SIGHTINGS
Eastern Cemetery (also in trees opposite Aldi), Dundee; 5th January 2019, 13:00-13:30:
50+ Waxwings, 50+ Redwings, Mistle Thrushes, Fieldfare, Sparrowhawk (male)
Also, in response to post towards end last year; magpie seen in cemetery today and quite a number seen though Angus & Dundee in recent months. 12 years ago we arrived in Scotland from SE England, there was a noticable lack of Magpies (as well as a pleasing peace with no Ring Necked Parakeets). Magpies have certianly been increasing in number over the last few years in this region; 6 or 7 seen in single field in last couple of weeks between Tealing and Auchterhouse. That's in addition to several other sightings. Magpies have also been seen for several years in the Friary gardens in Dundee (corner of City Road & Tulideph Road).

Heard a blackbird singing in Traill Terrace, Montrose at c.1645hrs tonight. Is this quite early in the year? Also saw a Common Buzzard fly from conifers on Montrose South Links this morning. (much bigger than sparrowhawk) Quickly chased by herring gulls.

Little Egret in the ditch at the car park today, unlikely to stay around on a better, busier day. Flew towards Craigmill, could be the Monikie one?
Arbroath Cliffs, 17 Fulmars sitting on the sea off the Mariners Grave, 23 Purple Sandpipers at Whiting Ness.
