No sign of adult Iceland Gull by 1700 at Victoria Park, Arbroath, roost not fully uncovered. Half tide on Thursday may suit, gulls bathe and preen in the fresh water of the burn. High tide is 1449.

The bird I reported by text at Balgavies is a Pochard drake and Tufted duck hybrid, probably the most common duck hybrid in the UK, and not a Scaup. I have photos of the same type of hybrid at Forfar Loch 2016 and Murton 2017 and I believe Gus had one at Forfar Loch in 2018. The bird has orange eyes, a peak at the rear of the head, the head has a purple sheen, the bill has a black tip instead of a just black nail and its back is grey and not vermiculated as a Scaup.

The 2016 bird is here and appears identical, https://www.flickr.com/photos/137390807@N03/40512935473/in/dateposted/

Page 35 of the Collins lists hybrids
