^ 10 members of the Angus and Dundee Bird Club (ADBC), spent just under a couple of weeks doing some intense birding in Colorado. This was the first visit to North America, so every bird (virtually) was a lifer. Other folks had a several target birds, which, thanks to their energy and that of members of the DFO Board and key leaders, were met!

Huge thanks from Bob McCurley and ADBC birders to Toni Rautus, Allison Hilf, Meredith Anderson, Norm Lewis, Scott Rashid, Joey Kellner, and all the DFO members who came to the party on Saturday. Not only did we get the chance to spend some social time together, official business was conducted! The Twinning Charter was ratified by both club presidents Toni Rautus and Bob McCurley. DFO Historian Warren Finch attended the gathering, and sent us these photos, attesting to the signing of the charter and ratification of our two clubs agreement. Tuesday 12th December 2006 - End of Year Meeting

Postby Mark Caunt » Wed Dec 13, 2006 12:58 pm

The picture below was taken Tuesday 12th December 2006 end of year meeting. The committee decided to award life membership to Dan Carmichael, for all the work he's done in various capacities in the ADBC.
Also, it was decided to award a similar accolade on Catherine Smith, who was the ADBC secretaryfor six years, until the last AGM.
Club Chairman Brian Cartwright and Jim Garnes are also in the pictures.
Jim built the hide at Montreatmont Forest 12 years ago, when he was 75! The club gave him a wee bit of assistance 2 or 3 years ago, to renovate it slightly and that is the hide there today. Jim goes to the hide twice per week in summer and every 2 days in the winter. We wanted to recognise the terrific work he has done over a long number of years and decided to make a small presentation to him last night, as some acknowledgement of that.

Received this from Bob McCurley and he asked me to post...

Dorothy and I took out a visitor/member of the Denver Field Ornithologists Club from Colorado USA.
(* The ADBC are twinned with the DFO) We managed to get her 35 Lifers! She was impressed! Her name is Marilyn Binkley from Denver, and she said it was the best Birding Day she had ever had! We took her to Murton, Montreathmont Forest Hide, Montrose & Basin Centre and the Redcastle Hide at Lunan Bay.
A very good day!

Red Castle Hide Rufurb

Postby Mark Caunt » Mon Jul 13, 2009 4:40 pm

Bob asked me to post this pic of the refurbed Red Castle Hide.
Bob McCurley, Jon Cook and Andrew Shepherd did the donkey work of repainting the hide.
Note of interest, the current total of Bird Species recorded from the hide during “Big Sits" and member visits (since it was established in 2002) is standing at a remarkable 143.
