And you might notice that its had a slight facelift.

Just a wee note to say thanks for your support over the years and for viewing the website.

42 species seen at Riverside Nature Park, Dundee this morning (2nd August) between 0800 and 1045.

Blackbird, Black Headed Gull, Black Tailed Godwit (1), Blue Tit, Buzzard, Carrion Crow, Chaffinch, Coal Tit, Common Gull, Common Sandpiper (12+), Cormorant, Dunlin (50+), Goldfinch, Greenfinch, Herring Gull, House Sparrow, Jackdaw, Lapwing (2), Lesser Black Backed Gull, Linnet, Long Tailed Tit, Mallard, Meadow Pipit (2), Mute Swan, Oystercatcher, Pied Wagtail, Redshank, Robin, Feral Pigeon, Sand Martin, Sandwich Tern, Shelduck (1 adult and 11 young), Song Thrush, Sparrowhawk (1 male low over car park), Starling (1), Stock Dove (2), Swallow, Swift, Willow Warbler, Wodpigeon, Wren and Yellowhammer.

August 3rd.. 12 noon Montrose Basin 1 GREEN SANDPIPER- 5500 (YES ! 5500 ) Mixed Gull Flock enjoying feeding frenzy straight out from Center Window- 1 LITTLE EGRET

August 3rd. 1 pm ADBC Lunan Bay hide- LITTLE TERN 1 KNOT 1 IN FBP LITTLE RINGED PLOVER 2 JUVS.

04/08/2014 Arbroath bowling alley. think there are 2 Med Gulls in the area. The one I found today nearly has lost all of its black cap unlike the one there yesterday. Condor east first returning Wheatear moving south.

Little Egret, Knot, Basin and Glaxo

Date & Time: Monday 4th August 2014 - 1000-1630

Species: Little Egret, Knot, Snipe etc.

Knot, 24 in breeding plumage at Glaxo area along with many Common Terns, Sandwich, Arctic and 2 Little Terns. Also Dunlin, Gulls and 4-6 Dolphins feeding in the river.

Little Egret near Old Harbour at 1630 but left when angler walked past. Snipe (5), Common Sandpipers (7), Stock Doves (2) and confusing juvenile Curlews with short beaks at Slunks and Lurgies. Thousands of Gulls fishing again in front of the centre and Black-tailed Godwits (7) seen from Rossie Mill area, Osprey on tree in the morning.

Note, the two Med Gulls were at Arbroath on 29/7/2014, they are roosting on Asda this year.

4th August - a wee trip round Angus

Carnoustie - At least 4 Little Gulls offshore
Westhaven - hundreds of Terns (Arctic/Common & Sandwich), Whimbrel heard
Craigmill Den - Common Sandpiper (possibly 2), brief glimpse of what may have been a Garden Warbler
Arbroath - juvenile Rock Pipit being fed by parents
The Lurgies - 2 Kingfishers, 1 Osprey, 1 Greenshank, 1 Peregrine, 1 Green Sandpiper, 3 Dunlin, large flock of Sandwich Terns (a few Commic Terns also)
Montreathmont Forest - 2 Crossbill (others heard), 3 Bullfinches
Balgavies - 2 Osprey
Forfar Loch - 4 Snipe (at NE corner), 2 Little Ringed Plover, 3 Dunlin, 2 Osprey (chasing each other at one point)

05/08/14 Basin. Old pier reed beds by gate 2 Kingfishers Mallard with 3 young ducklings. Lurgies never seen so many gulls, lots of Terns, Swans and Cormorants. As yet still not found Little Egret, checked Auchmithie but only found gulls, Harbour to bowling alley few Redshanks, 1 Turnstone, yet more gulls and Terns.

Basin counts

Managed a couple of full-Basin counts this evening - 8000 black-headed gulls present this evening and 850 Sandwich terns. 170 identifiable common terns plus a couple of hundred distant "commic" terns. I did not see an Arctic tern amongst the identifiable terns. Little egret still there.

06/08/2014 basin, Lurgies 2 Kingfishers busy along the reed bed, Osprey caught decent trout and moved north, Arbroath harbour Cormorants and gulls on harbour wall, 6 Gannets passed close inshore 4 Adults 2 Juvs

07/08/2014 Arbroath bowling alley large flock of Sandwich Terns Adult and Juv. Found 2 with rings 1- left leg Red over blue, 2-Lime green left, there was another bird with Red ring right leg, but because of the crowding could not get a good look at it. Any help in identifying the 1st 2 would be appreciated.

Date & Time: Thursday 7th August 2014 - 0930-2100

Species: In time order, Spotted Flycatchers, Crossbill, Jay, Red Kite, Snipe, Water Rail, Little Egret, Quail and Corn Bunting.

Montreathmont hide rota, 2 Crossbills and 2 Spotted Flycatchers on the track, 2 Jays at the feeders and a Red Kite heard calling and then seen flying west. Also Siskins, Bullfinches, Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff and a Wren in the hide.

Murton, 9 Snipe in front of the Gladstone Hide, 400 Greylags and 300 Lapwings.

Basin, Old Harbour, while filming the Water Rail the Little Egret landed behind me, also 4 Greenshank, 7 Common Sandpiper and 34 Grey Herons.

Seafield Farm on Arbroath to Boghead road, NO 673 456, 2 Quail calling at 2050 and a Corn Bunting on the wires, this is same location as Jon reported the Quail previously.

08/08/2014 Elliot 3 Dunlin, 9 Ringed P;overs, Swandwich Terns, Artic Terns, Swallows, 1 taking food into nest in chacon at ?green keepers compound, House Martins still feed young at Club house, linnets, 1 Sedge, Juv Gold Finch on Thistles, Pied Wags.

AUGUST 9TH 10AM CROSSBILLS 4 Seen at Montreathmont Forest Ride going down to hide on Left hand side - heard and saw 4 of them - approx 200 yards from where the Pylon run crosses track
Also saw 6 SISKINS and a GREAT SPOTTED WOODPECKER

A few counts from Montrose Basin last night. A quick scan suggested ca 20 - 25 000 gulls and terns present as the tide fell towards dusk (ideal conditions). Managed to whizz round and get some counts;

Canada Geese - 40
Common Gull 4500
Herring Gull 8000
Black-headed gull 8000
Greenshank 17

Montrose Basin - Lurgies (~10-11 am Sunday 17th)

Approx 400 canada geese, with ~20 greylags mingling. 8 common sandpipers and 8 greenshank at the Slunks entrance. Also, Osprey caught a fish at the Slunks entrance.

17TH AUGUST 2014 Phalarope Montrose Basin

A Phalarope was photographed by Neil Black at the Lurgies on Sunday afternoon, subsequently identified as a Red-necked by Bob McC. No sign of it yesterday early evening or today.

Arbroath Queens Drive (Old 10 pin) Monday 18th 5pm: 2 adult Mediterranean Gulls, 1 adult & 1 juv Little Gull.

AGV Hobby tormenting swallows Kinnaber 18.05hrs. Also ad LP Arctic Skua, 500+ kittiwakes, (peregrine eating 1) 100s terns ,180 common scoter etc. Chris

For your information I saw 2 Quail fly out of a barley crop I was harvesting yesterday afternoon at Shandford Farm.  Will Mather
