Terns at Montrose

Postby simonbusuttil » Thu Sep 10, 2015 9:51 pm

Interesting tern goings on last night on the Basin. In recent days there have just been a handful about and no dusk roosts of any note. Last night ca 1500 arrived (150 Sandwich, most of the rest being Arctic - from sample counts) through the night and into the early hours of the morning, being present before at first light but leaving immediately after. No significant numbers present tonight.

Purple Sandpiper

Postby Alex Shepherd » Fri Sep 11, 2015 8:54 pm

The first Purple Sandpiper of the season was at the roost at Inchcape Park Arbroath today, as usual in front of the third seat towards Gayfield from the sewage works at high tide.

A recce of Carnoustie Golf Links at midday today produced a mixture of birds including a Kestrel, Little Grebe, Curlew, also a Golden-ringed Dragonfly, Red Admirals and Peacock butterflies.
Some photos from the Links and Carnoustie Beach on my blog at the link below and what I believe is the Bean Goose Graham reported today which I had a photo of on Wednesday and forgot about!!

2 Magpie have been appearing in my garden for the last week or so - Whitehills, Forfar.

I wont ever post a Magpie related item again,as they are clearly common as muck in Angus now!! ;)

Sept 25th PINK FOOTED GEESE ARRIVE

Postby Bob McCurley » Fri Sep 25, 2015 8:58 pm

Sept 25th 3pm My Garden Chores were interrupted when I heard the evocative call of Pink Feet overhead , They were very high but I did get on to them as they headed for Fife or maybe Isle of May
As I was observing them A SWALLOW flew past my field of view heading South ! So nice to see the arrival of Winter Migrants and sad to see the departure of our Summer Visitor - Haste ye back !
