CHEAPO OPTICAL GEAR AT LIDL'S

Postby HarryB » Sat Dec 02, 2006 4:09 pm

Hi All,
This may be considered 'off message' and I'll apologise to anyone who thinks so:

LIDL's is selling their 10x50 porroprism binoculars again, for £9.99
Also, now selling a Bresser telescope, with a tripod for £99.99.
The telescope has a zoom eyepiece (25x - 75x) Objective lens is 91mm!
These items will be on sale from 7th December. If anyone is looking to introduce someone to birding at a reasonable price, this may be a place to make a start.

Four Common Greenshanks on south side of the Montrose Basin, about 500 yards west of SWT Centre. Also a Kingfisher has taken to perching on the shore in that area and at high tide, fishes from a large log on the beach, and which overhangs the water.

BONAPARTE'S GULL at Ferryden today (TUESDAY) 19.12.06

Postby HarryB » Tue Dec 19, 2006 10:33 am

Hi All,
Rob Noble-Nesbitt has just phoned at 08.40 to tell me the Bonaparte's Gull is again at Ferryden.
Morning at Ferryden seems to be becoming a regular feature of this great wee gull's behaviour. It also doesn't hang about too long, so maybe an early start will guarantee it? [/b]

Gull has flown off with most of the Black-headed Gull, following a fly-over by Peregrine Falcon (per Rob Noble-Nesbitt)

ALSO

YESTERDAY, at North Pond Monikie, a Ring-billed Gull, a Green-winged Teal and a Mediterranean Gull.
This information apparently available yesterday, but has only been made known to us today.

BONAPARTE'S GULL at Ferryden today (Wed) 20.12.06

Postby HarryB » Wed Dec 20, 2006 9:46 am

AT 08.37 this morning: BONAPARTE'S GULL at Ferryden, Montrose.
Reported by Rob Noble-Nesbitt. This Bonaparte's Gull appears to be developing a pattern of being at Ferryden every morning (early).
Yesterday, it departed, following a fly-over by a Peregrine and was only seen briefly after that, before moving away eastwards.
This is now (at least) the fourth consecutive early morning appearance of this great wee North American gull at Ferryden.
Speculation that it is the bird found on the 3rd January this year, by Stuart Greene, is almost certainly accurate.

WATER RAIL AT SWT CENTRE MONTROSE TODAY

Postby HarryB » Sun Dec 24, 2006 7:12 pm

The Water Rail was seen twice today at the SWT Wildlife Centre, Montrose. All the pools are frozen and it seems to be following last winter's pattern of skulking under the feeders and then making a quick dash across open ground, into more cover.
The Centre is closed until Friday 29th December, then open until 31st December.
