Nightingale at Garthdee, Aberdeen yesterday 07/05

Post by HarryB »

A report of a Common Nightingale heard yesterday 7th May at Garthdee, Aberdeen.
To get there from the south, enter Aberdeen from the main road at the southwest of the city. The narrow main road bridge is Garthdee Bridge. Cross the bridge and turn left at the roundabout (ASDA on your right).
REPORT:
'a common nightingale singing at Garthdee about 100m upstream from the David Lloyd Sports Centre. It's in a patch of bramble beside a strip of pine trees. Park at the Bridge of Dee Sainsburys and walk upstream along the footpath to reach this site.'

Scoters

Post by Dave Adam »

16 Common Scoters off St Cyrus beach. Flying in a long straggly line totally black, fast flying ducks. No evidence of activity on the fenced off area where hundreds of terns used to nest in the 60's-70's. Nice to see Clustered Bellflower, Northern Marsh Orchids, Nottingham Catchfly and Vipers Bugloss out.

SWT Montrose now has webcams at the bird feeders

Post by HarryB »

http://www.angusahead.com/VisitAngus/We ... Webcam.asp
Hi All, This is, in a way, about bird sightings in Angus.
The link above, takes you to the webcams now located at SWT Montrose and three of the cameras are focussed on three of the feeders.
Possibly this link is worth forwarding to anyone you know who has been birding at the SWT Centre?
It is certainly handy for checking the state of the tide and also the weather there, as well as some birds.

Barn Owls at St Cyrus

Post by HarryB »

Two Barn Owls at St Cyrus NNR on Monday.
One bird has apparently been seen regularly for past two weeks, or so. Visitors pointed out the two birds to me . Birds were on the cliffs, near the Peregrine area.No reason to expect that they'll have gone from there. That's the first Barn Owls there in two years.

A Great Knot is at the Fife Bird Club Hide on the Eden Estuary at Guardbridge in Fife.
The hide is behind the stables on the St Andrews road east of Guardbridge.

Brown Flycatcher - Izzy Shrike - Down South...

Post by Mark Caunt »

(This is way out of our area but thought I'd post as I know some Angus Birders maybe making the trip...)

Staying at a friends and as luck would have it a Brown Flycatcher was found at Flamborough Head, East Yorkshire while I am down here. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe this to be a 2nd for UK, the first record was in 92. It is in between the South Landing Lighthouse and Flamborough itself. A farmer has allowed his field to be a car park for a small donation. It is well signposted. "Flycatcher Parking Here!" Cracking bird!
:)

Less then 10 Miles away there is also an easily twitchable Isabelline Shrike at Buckton, East Yorkshire. Again A farmer has allowed his field to be a car park for a small donation. If your planning to go down and want any more info feel free to get in touch.
Those 2 coupled with a Blue Winged Teal in Middlesborough makes for not a bad trip...
