04/02/2011 Easthaven 592362 Quiet rainy walk with the dog. Never seen so many Blackheaded Gulls must have been about 500 on the shore edge, few Herr4ing and one Great Black Backed, lots of Widgeon, fews Oyster Catchers, Turnstone, Red Shank, Purple Sand Pipers, Cormorants, and a solitary Rock Pippit

redhead smew still at swamp hide this morning. Also GS woodpecker, Reed Bunting, Brambling, Teal, Wigeon, Goosander, Long-tailed Tit, Siskin, Lesser Redpoll, 2 Red Squirrels & 3 Otters in front of swamp hide ( then under it ).

About 4 adult & 1 immature gannet fishing off Kinnaber beach amongst a large concentration of gulls.

A pair of Ravens displaying at Cuthlie Harbour this morning from around 9:15 to 11:30.
Heard calls on previous visit (25th January) from somewhere in the vicinity of "Rosehill Plantation"

redhead smew still at swamp hide ,also there are; goosander,wigeon,goldeneye,shoveller (4) ,teal and 7 whooper swans. 7 bramblings at the feeders in the carpark amongst a flock of other small birds. Great-spotted woodpeckers & red squirrels prefering the feeders among the pines.

Feb. 14th 1400hrs. SMEW still showing well today - plus 30 WHOOPER SWANS and 2 MUTE SWAN
Above all seen at Loch of Kinnordy RSPB, Reserve today

Smew still at Kinnordy. At first in front of the Swamp Hide with 2 goldeneye and later with a flock of c170 teal viewable from the Gullery Hide. 4 Oystercatchers present and 2 Shelduck on the flash flood out of Roundyhill along the Meigle Road.

Ringed Starling

Had a starling on the fat balls on our feeder this lunchtime which had the following rings on it's legs.Orange and violet on the left leg and grey and blue on the right leg,the bird looked in good health.

22nd FEBRUARY 2011 Slavonian Grebe, Rescobie Loch

The Slavonian Grebe found yesterday on Balgavies Loch was at the NE end of Rescobie at 12.30 today, feeding with a group of Tufted and Goldeneye at approx NO518516. Also a pair of Pintail.

22 Feb 2011 NO300463. 360 Greylag with 3 Pinkfeet and 19 Whooper swans feeding in a field at Simprim farm near Meigle. One Greylag has an orange neck collar with black "ABX" plus a red left leg ring. Has been reported - apparently it was ringed at Lintrathen loch in 2003, seen there in 05 and 07, last seen south of Thurso in October 07.

15+ Redpoll on way to old hide at Lintrathen this morning.

6 Crossbill at Backwater beside the car park at the dam.

50 - 70 Tree Sparrow on wee road from Maryton to Roundyhill. Never seen more than half a dozen at once before!! (maybe this road is a great place for them all the time?)

Ninewells hospital peregrines showing well today,the male seemed to be doing a bit of displaying to the female who was sitting on the large chimney.great stuff

26th Feb Sea Eagle

Feb 26th 3pm NO250570. Sea Eagle juvenile circling (with a buzzard) above the road from Peel Farm to the Backwater Reservoir junction. Then headed roughly towards Lintrathen Loch, followed by us, but was not seen again.

Balgavies Loch - ~13:00

5 long tailed tits, blue, coal and great tits, a single greenfinch, great spotted woodpeckers, dunnocks, chaffinches, robin, loads of goldeneye, tufted ducks, greylag geese (inc. one which was half white - moulting I guess), mute swans having a good flap, cormorants and 5 bullfinches ( at least 3 male and a female).
