Thursday 27th June 2013 - Spotted Redshank

Post by Alex Shepherd »

Date & Time: Thursday 27th June 2013 - 1.30pm

Species: Spotted Redshank

Details: Spotted Redshank still at the Slunks at low tide and seen from the track to Shelduck Hide 300 metres before the hide, easily distinguished amongst the many Redshanks but meant they were very aware of my presence and kept 100-150 metres away. Reed Buntings, Sedge Warblers, Mergansers, Goosanders and a single Greenshank also around.

28th JUNE 2013 Spotted Crake, Kinnordy

Post by joncook »

Spotted Crake still calling strongly at the west end of Kinnordy tonight about 9-45pm, at the point where the main road turns sharp right.

Exceedingly good crakes.........

In addition to Jon's post above, the Spotted Crake still going strong last night at 11pm.

Furthermore, on Wed, Thurs, and Fri nights this week, I have heard a CORNCRAKE rasping away somewhere in the county, whilst searching unsuccessfully for Quail.
I am witholding the location for a variety of reasons, potential disturbance, landowners request, schedule 1 etc. I would say however that it is singing in a bog standard wheat field, so it may be worth getting out in the evenings almost anywhere in Angus for a listen around cereal fields.
Good luck! SRG
