Whitethroat near the beach at Auchmithie today, also 4 Puffins north of harbour. Raven chicks look ready to fledge at St Cyrus, their Facebook suggests they have but four seen in the nest today with adult attending. Whitethroat also at St Cyrus.

Gulls and terns

Post by simonbusuttil »

Hi everyone

many of you will have seen Jon Cook's appeal for volunteers to help with the National Seabird Census in Angus this year. This is an appeal for sightings. Whilst you are on your birding travels please look out for signs of nesting terns and black-headed gulls. These species are particularly mobile and can shift their breeding colonies in response to changing conditions. Some of the generally used sites are not available this year e.g. the tern raft at Montrose Basin SWT and other sites seem surprisingly quiet just now (the black-headed gull sites at Stannochy and Murton) so there are a few hundred terns and black-headed gulls which may well settle elsewhere. If you do come across any nesting or even suspect nesting somewhere please contact myself or Jon or simply stick the news on here (unless it is sensitive in any way of course). In this way we can ensure Angus is well covered and get an update on the fortunes of this group of birds in the County

Many Thanks

nice red kite yesterday morning over the Forfar/ Montrose road just before the turn off to the lurgies.

My father had a very close encounter with a Raven at Kinnordy yesterday (it was on the path!) before it was chased away by all the Rook!
