Ken Donald had the first sighting of an Osprey on the reserve yesterday at approx 3pm.
Also the 2 Green Sands are still at the Slunks.
I'm trying to pin down a final sighting date for the Lesser Yellowlegs does anybody have any sightings after 9th March? (If so I can be contacted nmitchell@swt.org.uk)
Whatever date it finally departed on (I assume it has?!)Having been found on the 10th Nov. 07 it would appear to have eclipsed the previous Scottish long stay of 40 days given in BS3.

Sandwich Terns and Purple Sandpipers at Usan.

Post by Dave Adam »

Couple of Sandwich Terns scything their way North on long, lopping wings into the ensuing sleet storm. Nice wee covey of 5 Purple Sandpipers, coming into summer plumage I reckon, having a break on the wave splashed rocks at Usan. Nice pair of Great Black-Backed Gulls here. Cormorants flying about with beaks full of sea-weed, that time already!

Common Sandpiper and Common Crane 7/04/08

Post by HarryB »

Yesterday, on the WeBS count at The Lurgies, Eileen Bickerstaff got 2 Green Sandpipers and a Common Sandpiper. Also there, were two Greenshanks.

TODAY John Ogilvie received a report of a Common Crane (seen yesterday) from the Montrose - Arbroath train.
We tried to find it, 'In one of the ploughed fields, visible from the train' , but could not find it.
However, since this is the second reported sighting of a Common Crane here in Angus, within two weeks, it might be worth a bit of extra effort to re-find it.

Re: APRIL 11 2008 Chiff Chaff

Post by jabarnes »

11th. April. 10.00hours. Chiff Chaff...I think, seen outside my kitchen window in birch tree near Reres Hill in Broughty Ferry. Thought it was a small chaffinch then realised it was too small and behaving like a tit, hanging upside down searching under twigs. It had vaguely olive green back and buff underparts with pointed beak. There was only one. My bird book doesn't show it even as a visitor to the East of Scotland, but nothing else matched it's appearance. Now I see on your site that one has been sen at Balgavies!
