Road Kill Otter

Post by Dave Adam »

Otter at roadside near Forfar by-pass, think it may be the female at Forfar Loch that I look at. Even after being on the motorway for a few days and then hosed down by me the undercoat is still dry and fluffy. Wish that road planners would build in animal underpasses at certain points as routine.

Red Squirrel - 18th March

Post by Grant Balfour »

Date & Time: 18/3/2009, 7.45am

Species: Red Squirrel

Details: Not an unusual sight as I see one or two most days, but this morning, as I was cycling near the Haughs of Kinnaird (NO642570) I saw one reared up on its hind legs in the middle of the road. I slowed to a halt only about a yard away (almost within touching distance) and it still gazed at me for a few seconds before running off up a tree at the side of the road.

Leopard Moth caterpillar!!!

Post by Nicola Main »

Hi I think I've found a Leopard Moth caterpillar! I've taken photographs but don't know how to put them on here. It says in my books that they are only found in the southern half of Britain.

Sorry guys I was being too hasty. Someone on a forum has identified it as a Gold Swift caterpillar and not a Leopard Moth. I didn't have it in any of my books so no wonder I misidentified it :(

There have been reports of a 'Turtle'/'Terrapin' at Loch of Balgavies for a while. The logbook in the hide now has photographs of it on the dead branch at the waters edge to the north of the hide.

Dolphins just off the rocks at Gourdon around 20:30 tonight. Couldn't tell what species but they were quite small. Possible Spinners? Who knows, but a lovely sight nonetheless.

Was up Glen Doll yesterday too Caper! We went through the forestry path over the bridge above the car park where we saw lots of Ringlets, Common Blues and there were about half a dozen Common Hawker dragonflies flying around. Also managed to get a photo of a male Golden-ringed Dragonfly. There was also a pair of Dark Green Fritillaries basking on the path.

Saw this last week at the side of Loch Lee,posted it on the wrong page.
As an aside, some one reported their dog was bitten up there,at the "Retreat".Does everyone know that Adders bites to dogs are quite often fatal and you should get to a vet asap.(Been researching since original post)
