Lost falconer's Harris Hawk (Dundee area)
Hi All,
Saw this message this morning and thought we birders would be the most likely to notice this bird.
I've reproduced the woman's request here and I think it could be considered relevant to our own interests, although I know a lot of us don't love falconers.
Have you seen our missing harris hawk? We have not long got her and have been training her. She was on her lead in the back garden and managed to get free. She has her ring on her foot and she has her leather strapes still on her legs. She went missing from our home in Lauderdale avenue, If anyone has seen her or comes across her in there garden can you please get in touch.
Many Thanks
Louise

lunan bay
was at the Redcastle hide late yesterday afternoon with my daughter, Alex. Single Slavonian grebe, single Red-throated diver, 15 - 20 L-T ducks, 2 puffins, several guillemots flying north and plenty of Gannets fairly far out. Saw another bird well out which I am sure was a Shearwater by the behaviour and colouring , would this be possible ?

The Cranes were spooked this morning and took to the skies. They circled round to gain height and flew off eastwards. When Bob Mc arrived they decided to return and landed at the swamp end of the reserve. Thats where there were when i departed.

Cranes departed Kinnordy at lunchtime, after being spooked by someone on the other side of the loch, trying to get a closer look!!!
Hopefully they might return later tonight.

Cranes & Godwits
The four Cranes were showing really well at Kinnordy. They reappeared about 2:30pm (Barry got some photos of them flying in), flew off after being disturbed by some walkers on the north side of the reserve, but returned after a few minutes. Still there when I left at 3:30pm. Best views were from the Swamp Hide as they were out in the open on one of the areas of bog bean to the north.
Montrose Basin - 7:00pm
Black Tailed Godwits (9) in breeding plumage. Greenshank (1).

Re: April 2010 BIRD SIGHTINGS - ADD CURRENT SIGHTINGS HERE
Saturday 17th April.
Started the day at Forfar Loch. Male Blackcap singing , Willow Warblers, Bullfinch, Yellowhammer, Swallow and Sand Martin out over the loch. Common Sandpiper to the north side of the boat club.
Over to Kinnordy, where we were treated to some great views of two Ospreys (one of which caught a Pike) and the 4 Cranes. Got a few decent flight shots of both.
Onto Backwater Reservoir, a pair of Mallard, Tufted Duck and Wigeon all seen from far car park. Meadow Pipit and Buzzard also seen.
Down to Lintrathen, lots of trees down along the path to the hide, including the big one by the bridge, wheich you have to get down on hands and knees to get past, and it has taken up a large section of bank with it. It has damaged the end of the bridge but it is possible to still get by to the hide. Great Crested Grebes, Goldeneye, Tufties, Mallards and Coot out on the loch. Swallows overhead, 6 Bullfinches in the trees and a lot of Goldcrests singing.
Dropped back in at Kinnordy but no sign of the Cranes. Swallows and Sand Martins had appeared while we were away and were feeding in front of the Gullery Hide.

Excellent day.
Went to Kinnordy, seen the cranes fly in at about 11.00am, then fly out again at about 11.30
Went over to Lunan bay saw a Slavonian grebe, pin tail and some divers.
Not certain, but thought we saw a sea eagle at Usan.
Finally saw my first swallow over our house and some bullfinches in the garden

The four Cranes were still in the fields south of Kinnordy @ 1430 this afternoon and showing very well. We gave the info to two other birders just minutes later and by the time they got from the car park the Cranes had left, direction unknown.

Male Redstart at SWT Montrose Visitor Centre Thurs. 22/04/10
There was a male Redstart at SWT Montrose yesterday morning.
The bird hung about the feeders area and also the Blackthorn bushes near the dipping pond, feeding for aproximately 45 minutes, before disappearing.
That's a first record for inside the grounds of the visitor centre.
