still some whoopers at kinnordy ,7 at the swamp end,150+ black headed gulls on the bogbean in front of the gullery hide some carrying nesting material,a few look like they may already be sitting

28/04/2010 RM Condor East 626430. 1st summer Swallows turned up today only 2 but its a start. I know its a common bird but in a flooded are a Moorhen has moved in, am hoping another turns. This is the first ever record of this species on the camp

Four Whimbrel on rocks at Mains of Usan around mid-day 28th April also small flock of Purple Sandpiper (est. 12 birds) and 3 Northern Wheatear.

House Martins, Newmill
Pair of house martins have been rebuilding last year's nest for nearly 2 weeks under the eaves of our house.

29/04/2010 Elliot 618388 1st Sedge arrived singing in reeds Elliot water end, Linnets busy nest building in gorse bushes. Gayfield 640413 1st Wheatear moving through to northern breeding grounds. Still no sighn of any sort of Tern

Tree Sparrows well advanced with breeding. Several nests complete with eggs. Seems about a week early. Tawny Owls using nest box for second year running.

A flock of @ 30 Sandwich Terns feeding off Montrose Beach seen from Kinnaber at 11.45 this morning. First of the year for Christina & I.

swallows repairing last years nests and 1st house martin here today at Castleton of Eassie.Blue tits nesting in a hole in a wall, same place they nested last year.Pied wagtails, jackdaws,blackbirds and pigeons all nesting in stacks of potato boxes. Barn owl been seen frequently in the area lately.

Presume there are lots of hybrids between Common Pheasants and escape birds like Silver, Reeves, Lady Amherst's and Golden Pheasant.John Paul Allon wrote:Christina & I came across a very odd Pheasant this afternoon at St Cyrus NNR. Half an hour before tea at the Red Castle hide,this evening.Roe deer spooked by a Buzzard hunting rabbits on the walk up.Dozens of Sand Martins,large flock 20+ Swallows arrived as we did at the hide.Courting Sandwich turns in front of the hide,30+ Gannets diving for their supper,still 7 Long Tailed Ducks in the bay.First time I've seen Shellduck in the river,usually in the Basin.2 Lesser Blackbacks bullying the Black headed Gulls,Fulmars sitting on nests on the ruins.

30/04/2010 Condor West grid 616439 1st returning Willow Warbler singing in trees back of officers mess. 3 Oystercatchers on nest 9 eggs so, another is nesting in restricted area should be more to come
