Small flock of Pink-footed Geese flew over Tayock at 10.30hrs today

2 marsh harriers, 2 osprey, 27 snipe feeding with 100+ lapwing. Also long-tailed tits, goldcrest, water rail , single greenshank and a heron catching a jack pike in front of Gullery hide.

Forthcoming Optical Fair at SWT Montrose
Hi All,
ADBC members have complained to me in the past, that they didn't know there was an optical fair on at the SWT centre and I hope you'll have sufficient notice this time, to attend.
If you have a specific request for a particular pair of bins, or scope, please let Caroline at the centre, know about it.

"A chance to test out a large selection of telescopes and binoculars with expert advice from the Viking Representative"

25th AUGUST 2010 - LURGIES
At the Lurgies from 19:00-20:30
Greenshank - 2 with colour rings (details to be sent to the ringing group) & another 5 without rings.
Marsh Harrier - immature bird with wing tag.
Kingfisher on the bank under the hide.
Snipe - 3 on the mud at the Millburn.
The Crane & Little Egret reappeared around 20:15.

AUGUST 25TH. 1300HRS. SPOTTED FLYCATCHER - 1 ( Return migration !) WHITETHROAT 1 WILLOW WARBLERS 4
DIPPER 2 ( ONE BEARING RING ON RIGHT LEG . ) ALL ABOVE IN CRAIG MILL DEN TODAY - in total 17 Bird species seen in Den .

August 27th Forfar Loch
4 Swifts over the Leisure Centre end this morning at 8.30am. Also 2 Whitethroats, Sedge Warblers, Willow Warblers, Goldcrest. Great Crested Grebe with 2 youngsters. Little Grebe with 2 youngsters.

Montrose Basin. Old Pier. Crane still present. About 7 separate sightings of Greenshanks one with leg bands (yellow on right; white on left). Whom do I notify?

You could let Adam McClure know, as he's the new SWT warden at the Basin and is also involved with the local ringing group.

August 28th MEDITERRANEAN GULLS
August 27/28th 10-30am. MEDITERRANEAN GULL Adult 1 At Foreshore behind 10 Pin Bowling alley Arbroath
I saw only a single bird today , but Graham saw 2 Med Gulls at same site yesterday: they have been visiting this site quite frequently recently, but can be elusive.

Later on from the above,blacktailed godwit x5 plus wheatear at the basin,went for a sea watch at Boddin and ending up facing the other way watching two sparrowhawks making a nuisance of themselves,one landing on a fence less than twenty feet away.

30th AUGUST 2010 Spotted Redshank The Lurgies
Spotted Redshank, juv or faded adult, at the point where the Mill Burn joins the S. Esk, 4pm on the rising tide.
Also Crane still present but no sign of Little Egret.
