FORFAR LOCH

Kingfisher at Leisure Centre end.

Only a couple of ice free spots, but well worth a look, as all the wildfowl is crammed together! 350+ Tufted Duck
40+ Mallard
50+ Goldeneye
30+ Goosander
20+ Wigeon
40+ Teal.

Alos plenty of the wee stuff including singles in Brambling , Tree Sparrow, Great Spotted woodpecker & Magpie. 50+ Siskin, 20+ Yellowhammer

Absolutely no Robin or Dunnock, which is a bit worrying.
Also all the Thrush species (except Blackbird) seem to have moved away, for shame!

Goldcrest: about 1510 hours, Wednesday 19. January 2011
Victoria Street, Dundee between junctions with Brown Constable Street and Victoria Street.
In tree shrub off south doorway and flying around window behind it. 100 %! Size of it drew attention.
Almost butterfly or bat like. When it went into shrub I thought it must be a wren. Then it came out.

Apologies for posting this a day late.....
Had a day off work so went to Forfar Loch in the morning. Still around half the loch frozen, a lot of flooding at the road end, and some pretty icy sections. Birdwise - Gadwall, Pochard, Goosander, Buzzard, Collared Dove, Goldcrest, Magpie, Long Tailed Tit, Grey Wagtail (high in a tree next to a) Great Spotted Woodpecker (have never seen a GSW at Forfar Loch before, this one was near the rugby pitch area) and various other regulars. Quite a few Greylags and a few Pinkies around too.

Took the bus to Arbroath and walked out to Elliot reedbeds. A mixture of waders and Gulls on the breakwater at the harbour, but nothing out of the ordinary. Couple of Common Snipe at the reedbeds, a flock of Linnets with a couple of Yellowhammers, and an overflying Peregrine were the highlights there. Continued west towards Hatton sewage treatment works. Lots of waders on the shore here (Oystercatchers, Redshank, Dunlin, Turnstone, a few Sanderling, a Knot, and a Purple Sandpiper). Mixture of gulls as well. Continued on to Carnoustie but the light was beginning to go (as were my legs) and apart from some Herons and Curlews in the fields there wasn't too much else to see.

White-Tailed Eagle at Lintrathen Loch today at noon.Viewed from entance gate at old hide.Sitting at top of big Larch tree next to the road, totally unconcerned with walkers & cyclists passing by ( none of them saw this bird while I was there.)
Bird had green wing tags with what looked like a Z on them. Watched from approx. 100 metres for about 30 minutes.
