Hi all, just received an email this afternoon from Graham Chalmers. This is the first Ive heard of this news, but he asked me to post his photo of a Hawfinch that came to his garden in Forfar on Tuesday 1/5/12 at approx 7.15 pm. It appeared for about 15-20 minutes landing on ground and flying into a nearby pine tree. No further sightings since there I am told.

Colour-ringed Pied & White Wagtails

Post by Clive McKay »

Dear all,

Just a wee reminder that Iain Livingstone has been colour-ringing Pied and White Wagtails at an autumn roost in Clyde for several years, and now is the time of year when these birds are often re-sighted. If you do see a colour ringed bird please contact Iain with colour combination, date, location (and a photo if you can get one!) at iainlivcrg@googlemail.com There is an article on the project by Iain in the latest Scottish Birds news section.

Migrating wagtails have also been ringed in the autumn in southern England and these are often Pieds from Scotland or White Wags from Iceland. Dennis Elphick recently wrote an article about this in the latest edition of BTO’s Ringing News. These can turn up anywhere in Scotland – again contact Iain with any sightings.

Cheers

Clive

I was in the Glens, walked a little bit of Jocks road(part of post operative rehab)popped into Kinnordy and managed to miss all of these, just my luck, still not seen a Sea Eagle.
I worry about the spread of birds of prey in Angus,we seem to have poor record for them surviving the attentions of certain sporting estates activities(allegedly).
