Dundees Coxes stack peregrines showing up well today lots of noise and food passing going on.

First proper seawatching of the year at Usan. A light but steady movement of auks N (both razorbill and guillemot) ca 80 per hr. Fulmars and red-throated divers moving N too

04/03/2013 Easthaven found a pair of Magpies which is the first pair have seen there. That was the only thing outside of the normal stuff. Arbirlot village end pair of Dippers at bridge, Grey Wagtail under bridge. Rookery very busy.
Lat entry 03/03/2013 Condor good to hear the birds singing, 7 Song thrush, 5 Mistle Thrush, Great Spotted Woodpecker, no activity at the rookery.

An Angus Glen 3/3/13

1pr Red Grouse, 1pr Black Grouse, 1 Raven, numerous Buzzards, 2 Red Kites (1 Black Isle 2012 bird - blue/red tag, 1 Central Scotland 2012 bird - red/red tag), Kestrel, Lapwings, Meadow Pipit, Mistle Thrush, 1 Stock Dove, Pink Footed Geese overflying northeast, Skylark, Carrion Crow, Wren. Also, 2 Red Kites, 1 Red Legged Partridge, Pheasants while en route to/from Glen.

Kinnordy 3/3/13
Barn Owl, Common Gull, Coot, Gadwall, Goldeneye, Goosander, Grey Heron, Greylag Goose, Herring Gull, Mallard, Oystercatcher, Mute Swan, Whooper Swan (c100 between 2 species), Pheasant, Reed Bunting, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Chaffinch, Shelduck, Shoveler, Wigeon, Teal.

09/03/2013 Forfar Loch 10.30. Vvery windy in Arbroath so thought a walk with the dog at the Loch for a change. Black Headed Gulls, Mute Swans, Mallards, Great Crested Grebes, Tufty Ducks, Oyster Catchers, Pochard, House Sparrows, Woodies, Crows, Goldfinches, Black Birds, Moorhen, Comorants, Herring gulls, Buzzard,, Coots, Wrens, Chaffinches, Blue tits, Gooseanders, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Magpies, robins, Lesser Black Back gull (1st this year for me), Golden Eye. Grey Lags.

Riverside Nature Park, Dundee 9/3/13

A rather chilly day down at the park, with a strong biting easterly wind very apparent in the open areas. Still managed 36 species in all, with some good numbers of Black Headed Gulls especially (c300, but probably more) in the bay. Pairs were also quite noticeable (Song Thrush, Long Tailed Tit, Robin, Goldcrest, Yellowhammer).

Birds seen - Blackbird, Black Headed Gull (c300+), Carrion Crow (c30), Chaffinch, Common Gull (c10), Cormorant (1 with a lot of white on the head), Curlew (15), Dunlin (1), Dunnock (1), Fieldfare (4), Goldcrest (2), Goldeneye (4 male), Goldfinch (9), Goosander (1pr and 1 female - first time I've seen a drake here), Great Tit, Grey Heron, Herring Gull, Jackdaw (c20), Lesser Black Backed Gull (1), Long tailed Tit (3 or 4 prs and a group of 4), Mallard, Mute Swan (2), Oystercatcher (6), Pied Wagtail (1), Redshank, Redwing (2), Feral Pigeon, Shelduck (c20), Song Thrush (2), Sparrowhawk, Starling, Teal, Woodpigeon, Yellowhammer (2).

drake Smew still on Kinnordy Loch...been hiding down at the east end again.
Several mixed Thrush flocks around Airlie / Ruthven area this afternoon......Fieldfare, Mistle Thrush and a couple of flocks of Redwing.

11th MARCH 2013 Rescobie Loch

Single drake Long-tailed Duck towards the west end this am. Also a very strikingly white headed Cormorant, perhaps of the sinensis sub-species?

flock of aprrox 600 woodpigeon in the field north of the arbroath road heading towards monikie,

at 11am heading in North Easterly direction -- Possibly same Bird seen at Balgavies by Warden Jim Hughes yesterday but not present today -----

Montreathmont Forest - 12 March (am)
2 bullfinches on main track. From the hide:- yellowhammers (2), siskin (2), blue / coal / great tits, robins (4), blackbirds, chaffinches, dunnocks, 2 red squirrels.
Heard green wodpeckers, great spotted woodpecker, pheasants and jay. Grey heron flew over on way back to car.

Montrose Wildlife Centre -12 March (pm: high tide)
3 brambling at the feeders, along with the usual tree and house sparrows, chaffinches, pheasants, blue / coal / great tits, robins (4), blackbirds, dunnocks, goldfinches. Rossie spit - oystercatchers, black tailed godwits, curlew, shelduck, cormorants, eider, redshank, wigeon. Buzzard hovered nearby. Goosander/red breasted mergansers in the basin.

Forfar Loch

Pair of Great Crested Grebe tentatively displaying at Leisure Centre end and single bird at A90 end. Pair of Bullfinches near viewing platform and Long-tailed Tits in trees nearby. Gadwall in pairs on Loch and c40 Goosander including a pair among the mallards at the Centre. A Cormorant feeding in the Dean not put off by me watching from metres away.

Wednesday March 13th 2013 - 4.00 pm
Keptie Pond, Arbroath

Pair of Goosander, very wary so probably won't stay around. Still Cormorants fishing, Mallard, Tufties, Black-headed Gulls, Coots, Moorhens and resident Mute Swans.

Wednesday March 13th 2013 - 4.30 pm
Whiting Ness, Arbroath

1 Merganser, 24 Turnstone, 16 Eider, 7 Curlew, 4 Ringed Plover, 22 Oystercatcher, Redshanks and various Gulls

Wednesday March 13th 2013 - 5.00 pm
Arbroath Harbour (new slipway at sewage works)

1 Lesser black-backed Gull, Oystercatchers, Redshank, Turnstones and 1 Cormorant

Spent an hour before sunset yesterday in woods around Farnell and found 3 Woodcock. Could be birds migrating through.

Sorry If this is not in the correct place.
Did anyone see the DundeeTelegraph last night. There was a photo of a Coal Tit submitted. details were it was taken along the Dighty Burn somewhere. The picture actually showed what I think is a very grey Willow Tit. Did anyone see this or have I missed a post about this

Forfar Loch and Balgavies Loch (15 March)

Forfar Loch

Went for a wander from the Leisure Centre to the sailing club from 1 - 2pm, then hid at the sailing club from a shower, then wandered back. Loads of small birds were singing their hearts out. The following were seen:-

black headed gulls, blackbirds, blue tits, a brambling, a pair of bullfinches, chaffinches, coal tits, common gull, coots, cormorants, crow, dunnocks, gadwalls, a goldcrest, goldeneye, goldfinches, loads of goosander, great crested grebes, great tits, greenfinches, a grey heron, greylag geese (4), herring gulls, a kingfisher, lapwing (1), lesser black backed gulls (2), little grebe, long tailed tits, magpies (2), mallards, moorhens, mute swans, oystercatchers, pink footed goose (1), redshank (1), robins, song thrushes, teal, treecreeper (1), tufted ducks, woodpigeons, wren, yellowhammers. Also, a buzzard was heard.

Balgavies Loch (4pm)

Blackbird, blue tits, coal tits, cormorants (25 on island trees), dunnocks, goldeneye, a pair of goosander, great tits, greylag geese, jay, long tailed duck, long tailed tits, mallards, moorhens, mute swans, robins, song thrush, treecreeper, tufted ducks, wren and a mouse!

16/03/2013 Arbroath. There are now 3 pairs of Gooseander at Keptie pond. Pair of Coots busy at nest sight. Condor over 50 Curlew feeding on airfield along with 3 Roe Deer.

Not a lot other than the best numbers of kittiwakes of the year so far. Passing at a rate of 240 per hr (two thirds nth, one third heading sth). Over 99% adults

As per Ian Ford's AGV message, the Green-winged Teal has moved over the border to the Dundee side of Invergowrie Bay, showing off and on in the channel between 3.30 and 4.30 this afternoon, viewed from Riverside Nature Park.

23rd MARCH 2013 Slavonian Grebes

Broughty Ferry Harbour 4pm - having checked my photographs, as Bob earlier suspected, there were two Slavonian Grebes in Broughty Ferry Harbour, one in winter plumage, the other nearing summer plumage. Also a Little Gull briefly at the water's edge just west of the Lifeboat Station.

Found a third dead robin in my garden today in tealing and practically picked another very thin one up from under my hedge.This bitterly cold weather is taking its toll
