One hour look off there this evening there were 40 Manx Shearwaters past (35 north) , 1 adult Little Gull south, 1 Red-throated Diver north, and 36 Common Scoters north, SRG

Eleven Common Sandpipers at the Kinnaird/Arrat weir on the River Southesk plus another two a few hundred yards downstream. They'll probably all be at the Lurgies area of Montrose Basin soon.

At Old Montrose Fri night two adult Water Rails feeding two downy chicks with two older young also in attendance.

The black guillemot was still at Red Head this morning with 170 razorbills and 20 puffins there. Also 4 peregrines.

Male Redstart (1) & Spotted Flycatcher (1) on Rossie Moor. The more usual small birds included lots of Meadow Pipit, Yellowhammer, Linnet, Beed Bunting & Willow Warbler

Can't quite match the quality of the seabirds of Monday night/Tuesday morning as described above by Chris, but 3 hour seawatch this pm from Arbroath produced -
Manxies - 283 north
Bonxie -2 north
Arctic Skua -3 north
Little Gull - 4 adults feeding in the bay
A few Common Scoter both directions, not much else

Long-eared Owl near Carmylie tonight at 11.45pm then a Barn Owl on Bogside road ,just west of Logie crossroad, south of Kirriemuir.

Spent the evening at Loch of Kinnordy tonight (7:30 till 10pm).

Heard at least 3 water rails, saw a buzzard being chased off by a single swallow. Also seen were:-

Lapwings and a single chick, mute swan pair with 7 cygnets, mallard with 3 ducklings, a swift, a female scaup, shoveller, gadwall, teal, wigeon, coots, moorhen, oystercatcher, reed buntings, sedge warbler(s) heard, osprey, woodpigeon, ~100 starlings, grey heron.

Non-birds:- red squirrel, 2 deer and a beaver swimming across the loch.

Red Grouse x 0 on a 15 mile hill trek, only 1 seen crossing the road at Rowan!
Pied Wagtail, Wheatear, Ring Ouzel, Meadow Pipit, Sand Martin, House Martin, Swallow juvs,
and a Slow Worm.

There are normally at least 2 pairs round my house.
This year i havent seen one!

BirdTrack shows the reporting rate of Spotted Flycatcher to be about 10% lower than average this year. Atlas data shows them to be in serious decline.

Hopefully this good weather will allow some recovery this year.
I am worried about Stonechats too, have yet to see one in Angus this year.

2 red kites over grouse moor near summit of the Wirren. One had a red wing tag visible on its right wing, too distant to read.

Date & Time: Monday 2nd July 2013 - 11.00am to 1.00pm

Species: Golden Plover, Turnstone, Ringed Plover, Dunlin and Terns

Details: Victoria Park Arbroath near the cliffs on an incoming tide covering the rocks, Golden Plover 12, Turnstone 7, Ringed Plover 11, Curlew 17, Dunlin (juvenile) 1, Sandwich Tern 22, Common Tern 2, Arctic Tern 3, Redshank11, Razorbill 19, Shag 7 and usual Gulls, Eider and Oystercatchers. Juvenile birds with Ringed Plover and Sandwich Terns, Pied Wagtails, Rock Pipits, House Martins and Linnets also around.

Some photos in photo section, if I've got the Dunlin wrong let me know please.

July 22nd 12noon ARCTIC SKUA 1 Dark Phase Seen in Carnoustie Bay opposite Championship Golf Course Hotel going > N Seen very close in to shore.

Monday morning puffins of shore at auchmithie cliffs later in afternoon at boddin point around a dozen gannets feeding close to shore also 2 herons and a few gulliemots great black backed gull and house martins

July 23rd. 3-20pm MEDITERRANEAN GULL ADULT Seen on foreshore at 10 Pin Bowling Alley , behind Jumpin Joe'ys Arbroath - West Links - When we left at 4pm it was sitting on top of the Blue Roof in company with Black Headed Gulls - Seen by Bob - Jon - and Jackie Black - This was circulated over the Angus and Dundee Bird Club Mobile contact AGV system to particapating members .
