4th Oct 2013 found the Y/B Warbler as per SRG Grapevine Directions. Following is article from todays Daily Mail
"New Owl is discovered". A British ornithologist has helped find a completely new species of owl. Magnus Robb,43, formerly of Edinburgh and his team made their discovery in Oman in the Middle East. The species, completely new to science, is a little bigger than the Tawny Owl and has been named the Oman Owl, after the country it was found in.

Arbroath Harbour - Roseate Tern

Post by Alex Shepherd »

Date & Time: 4/10/2013 - 5.15 pm

Arbroath harbour area between Inchcape Park sewage works and Gayfield.

Tern previously seen by Mickey Mellon photographed by me and ID confirmed as a Roseate by Bob.
Last entry for a Roseate in Angus was in August, this one seems out of place?

Grid is NO 63920 40150, YouTube handheld Video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIQXHJ_x8AQ
A small group of Linnets also flying around and two Shags in the harbour mouth near the oil pier.

6 OCT 2013 - Yellow Wagtail

Post by Grant Balfour »

6 Oct 2013
While scanning through a flock of Pied Wagtails in a field near Boghead Farm, I found a blue-headed type Yellow Wagtail. By the time I got the scope out of the car to see if it was something a bit more unusual, the whole lot had flown off.

"The Tern"

Post by Alex Shepherd »

Tuesday 8th October 2013

No sign of the Roseate or possibly Eastern Common Tern today or since Friday, waiting ID to be confirmed, if it can be?

Sorry this bird wasn't texted out but you can see below why.
The tern was seen by Mickey at circa 4.15 pm when it was scared by a dog, I happened by and stayed on and it returned after 5.00 pm and I took photos and video.
The photos were sent to Bob at 9.00 pm and he agreed with my suggestion it was a Roseate, I posted here at 10.09 pm.

A five minute visit to the Lurgies today found 4 Scaup and a Grey Wagtail which was feeding in the car park!

At Pleasureland, Arbroath 4.30 pm, a juvenile Sparrowhawk was hunting the many finches on the Pitch 'n 'Putt course.

Lintrathen 16 Oct - record Redwing count today

Post by Clive McKay »

Surprise movement of 3,780 Redwings >NE over Lintrathen area late morning today as the most cleared. I can only guess that these birds were re-orienting to NE Scotland after making landfall (much?) further south in Scotland (or N England?). This is the first time I've ever seen autumn Redwings at Lintrathen moving in any direction other than >WSW along the south edge of the Grampians. Always discovering!
