January 1st - Dundee highlights
3 Jays mobbing a male Sparrowhawk in Ninewells Hospital grounds. 2 male Bullfinches and a flock of Siskins near the Riverside Avenue circle. 2 Fieldfares feeding on apples in a tree on Loons Road. Red Throated Diver still in City Quay. 3 Redwings at Riverside Nature Park.
January 2nd - Dundee to Barry along the coast highlights. 2 Pintail, a Grey Plover and 27 Golden Plovers between Balmossie and Monifieth. 40+ Red Breasted Mergansers together in the Tay off Broughty Castle. A Magpie over Court Street, Dundee. 10 Tree Sparrows near Barry Station, in hedges by houses.

Monifieth Garden
Feeders pretty busy today.
Male and female g.s.woodpeckers. 2 male and 2 female bullfinches on the sunflower heart feeders.
4 male and 2 female yellowhammers. male siskin. 2 possible linnets (have photos). long tailed tits
bluetit (s) checking out camera nestbox daily, although it is not being used at night yet this winter
blackbird numbers up, plenty chaffinches, bluetits, coaltits, great tits, 2 robins, woodpigeons, house sparrows
sparrowhawks giving us a break at the moment
grey squirrels doing well in Monifieth - group of 4 visiting the garden and a fox at night

Riverside Nature Park, 5/1/14
35 species seen - Blackbird, Black Headed Gull, Blue Tit, Bullfinch, Buzzard, Carrion Crow, Chaffinch, Common Gull, Curlew, Dunnock, Great Black backed Gull, Great Tit, Greenfinch, Grey Heron, Herring Gull, Kestrel, Long Tailed Tit, Mallard, Meadow Pipit, Mute Swan, Oystercatcher, Peregrine, Pied Wagtail, Redshank, Reed Bunting, Feral Pigeon, Robin, Shelduck, Siskin, Song Thrush, Starling, Teal, Wren, Yellowhammer.

Interesting to read about the large numbers of Bullfinches, as I've seen more Bullfinches recently than at any time I can remember. Could these be an irruption of "Northern" Bullfinches?

1 Iceland gull in the bay at riverside nature park,the gull was feeding/washing to the left of the hide at 1.25 pm,21 whoopers at piperdam

6th JANUARY 2014 ANGUS BIRD SIGHTINGS
Iceland Gull still at Riverside nature park Dundee 11.40, in burn left of hide. Also Peregrine through seen off by corvids and 6 Redwings in hedge by lochan but mobile.

Details: A single Snow Bunting calling and flying south over Auchmithie Village at 8:45am today.
AGV Messages over the past week and also yesterday that the male Smew and Bittern still present at Kinnordy.
