Common Whitethroat on cliffs at Auchmithie. Grey Wagtail in Cliffburn gulley.
To the attentive eye, each moment of the year has its own beauty, and in the same field, it beholds, every hour, a picture which was never seen before, and which shall never be seen again. --Ralph Waldo Emerson

Yellow Wagtail at the close beside my shop again on and off throughout the day (Doig's Montrose)
It was quiet being a bank holiday so I managed to track it - it is flying between my close and some scrappy ground at the back of the Bank of Scotland.

Re: MAY 2016 ANGUS BIRD SIGHTINGS
Popped into Balgavies this afternoon and was asked by a couple already in the hide about an Osprey they'd noticed perched up by the nest with a blue ring and an aerial on its back. I took some photos, knowing it wasn't one of the resident pair, and checked later at home. Turns out it is Blue YD - a male born there in 2012, whose transmitter has stopped working but was spotted on the Eden in Fife last August and again in January in Senegal. He's made it 'home'.
A wee bit of 'history' of Blue YD.

5th MAY 2016 Swifts Barnhill
Four Swifts screaming over Barnhill, Broughty Ferry tonight, made walking to the polling station well worthwhile. This equals my earliest record here from 2008 and unusual I think to hear them screaming when first back.

Easthaven Webs Count 8/5/2016
8th May 2016 on a rising tide near Eastahven
Two Whimbrels between Craigmill and Easthaven today on my Webs, also 27 Ringed Plover, Dunlin and 12 Gannets fishing close to the tide line.
Note, also my Hide Rota today. Can I ask that anyone visiting the hide to take some food with them as it has all but run out after filling three feeders today.
No sign of the Dunnock at the hide with Avian Pox but I found my third bird recently with the disease, this time in my garden, a Coal Tit. Good hygiene is essential at feeders but despite continually cleaning my feeders I have a case. As an infrequent visitor I'm hoping it's picked it up elsewhere. Rather than posting a photo of the Coal Tit you can find two photos on my blog here, it's not for the faint hearted, http://aberbrothock.blogspot.co.uk/2016 ... giene.html

Glossy Ibis, and Fat Fingers - Whimbrel
The Glossy Ibis was at the Shelduck Hide today at 1435 but almost immediately flew away when two walkers and a dog walked down the path. I had avoided the muddy path and sneaked along the back of the bank and into the hide without being seen. Later, about 1445 I met a birder who had seen a Crane fly into the Slunks/Lurgies area which I couldn't locate, I'd have confidence in his sighting.
Today's text report of 33 Whimbrel at the Wigeon Hide should have read 3 Whimbrel, I can't blame cold fingers instead I couldn't read the screen for the glare. The Pink Foot Geese number was correct at 42.

Date & Time:Wednesday 10th May 2016 - 8:45pm
Species: Glossy Ibis, Black-tailed Godwit
Details: After being given the run around on Monday...arrived at the Shelduck Hide at 6:30pm. The Glossy Ibis flew in at 8:45pm ish and began feeding in the field behind the hide.
It also took to the air occasionally and repositioned in the field before flying over the bank and being lost to view at around 9:15pm ish. Neil Black, Adam Caird and Doug Milne also present in the hide.
Also approx 18+ Black-tailed Godwits flying over and stopping briefly on shingle exposed by receeding tide. Osprey over a couple of times also.

Carnoustie Golf Links
Friday May 13th 2016 - 1330-1515
38 species seen today at the west end and centre of the links despite a cold wind. Chiffchaffs singing at the parking area for the practice course, Swans, Little Grebe and Willow Warblers breeding on the site and last years list was over 70 species.
Please feel free to explore the golf courses as part of the clubs role performed to assess and collate bird numbers and species on the three courses. If you have Bird Track access please add a list or casual report, if not please send me your data which I will add under the clubs name. My email is on the right hand of this report, click the envelope icon. The Golf Links Committee made a large donation to the club last year in recognition of our work in 2015. Last year we arranged a guided walk which can be done again if members wish.
Separately in my front garden in Arbroath today in a small apple tree, 3 metres from my window a Magpie, showing they are spreading throughout Angus and not so shy.
