Thursday 3rd November 2016 - Waxwing
Date & Time: Thursday 3rd November 2016
Species: Waxwing
Details: A single, calling Waxwing flew south east over Mackenzie Gardens, Brechin at 1:45pm today.
As it was flying over, a lone bird and untwitchable, I didnt put it out on the AGV, as it would be a waste of time coming to this location for this individual.
Their are however plenty of Rowan/Cotoneaster berries in this location, so might be worth checking if your in the area at least.

Also at the Lurgies, 24 Little Grebe, 2 Greenshank, Redshank yellow flag 276 which I think is an Ythan bird I'll report, and a female Sparrowhawk which had a half-hearted attempt at the Redshank. Wigeon, Teal, Goldeneye, Goosanders, Shelduck, Mute and Whooper Swans and of course some Pink-footed Geese but many in fields to the south but not on Goose Road where there looks to be shooting.
No sign of any Waxwings in the McKenzie Gardens area in Brechin but Blackbirds and Song Thrushes feeding on berries on the nature trail nearby.

Waxwings and Lunan Bay
The Montrose Waxwings or some of them appear to be moving between Lower Craigo Street and the trees opposite Guthries Garage on the corner of Newhame Road and North Esk Road, unless it's a second flock? There are ample berries left at both sites so hopefully they'll stay around given some space.
Rossie Spit, large numbers of Knot, Redshank and Oystercatchers with a few Black-tailed Godwits, Bar-tailed Godwits, Teal, Wigeon, Cormorants, Grey Herons and a Buzzard disturbing them.
Lunan Bay from the public platform, 73 Long-tailed Ducks, 11 Red-throated Divers, 6 Velvet Scoters, 1 Red-breasted Merganser and around 400-500 Common Scoters.
St Cyrus Hide, 1 Velvet Scoter on the North Esk, 2 Stonechats on the path, 1 Kestrel, 41 Cormorants and 2000+ gulls on the shingle and the beach.
Possible Merlin chasing the Corn Bunting mixed flock at Boghead near the water tank.

Crossbill
The first Common Crossbill I've seen since March, viewed today from the path to the old hide at Lintrathen. It's likely a few others were also present but only seen into sunlight. Many more Wigeon and on the opposite bank today making finding the American Wigeon very difficult without my scope.
Arbroath Cliffs, 18/11/2016. There are approximately 400 birds, mostly Linnets in a flock, sometimes split into two in the first field along the path. There were some Twite amongst them along with Pipits and Skylark. On Thursday 17th again from the cliff path a White-tailed Eagle approached a flock of gulls behind a plough on West Seaton but turned away and flew north, I didn't put it out as it was nearly dark. Perhaps the same one seen at Montrose Basin on Saturday.

Lintrathen and Backwater.
American Wigeon at Loch of Lintrathen from old hide but near opposite bank, take your scope. Adult White Tailed Eagle at Backwater you’ll still have need of your scope.
