Little Egret - Kinnaber

Post by Alex Shepherd »

Sunday January 1st 2017 - 1230 hrs

Kinnaber, the south bank of the North Esk estuary accessed from the car park and track opposite the entrance to Charleton, north of Montrose. Viewing also possible from the hide at St Cyrus NNR.

Little Egret seen again feeding in a channel on the island in the river before flying on to a pool in a field on the north bank. High tide probably not suitable unless it has chosen to feed in the pool on the south bank.

Big thumbs up to Mark for all his work running this forum and text service, thanks

Glaucous and Iceland Gulls

Post by Alex Shepherd »

One Glaucous and one Iceland Gull, both looked to be juveniles (will check later) at Victoria Park, Arbroath between the start and the first ramps. Seen at 1520 on 13/1/2015 feeding on the strand line near high tide. Didn't pick the Iceland at first due to being blinkered by photography, pointed out to me by Stuart. Both birds close in and sometimes close to each other.

Had a good view of the Water Rail at Balgavies yesterday creeping about through the reeds. Was hoping it would come and feed under the feeders but no luck. Also Moorhen, Jay, Great Spotted Woodpecker, nice flock of Long-tailed Tits and the other usual garden and woodland birds.

American Wigeon

Post by Alex Shepherd »

The American Wigeon was seen well from the new hide at Lintrathen this morning. The loch in front of the old hide was frozen. Also a large flock of Linnet, Chaffinch and many Bramblings (71 in one tree from a photo) between the new hide and the sawmill. All flushed as we viewed by a Merlin, just as seen late last year. Most of Kinnordy also frozen.

Magpie Forfar.

Post by Colin Black »

Arrived today to find the road in to Balgavies hide car park closed. In addition no access to swamp and gullery hides at Kinnordy due to dangerous tree. Magpie flew across the road and sat on a wall just as we entered Forfar.
