I have been aware of a considerable increase in the numbers off Magpies seen on the Montrose South Links over the past few years and today I noted four together on one of the conifers

Increase in MAGPIE NUMBERS NOTED

Post by Bob McCurley »

Yes Jim , The Magpie increase in numbers in recent years has been great , no obvious explanation for this but I personally enjoy seeing them .
I now have them Breeding on Barry Buddon , but never saw them at all just a few years ago , and the same applies to Buzzards , big increase in this species too , which I welcome - Any unusual occurrences in Angus you become aware of , please post on this website .Cheers - Bob

Black Redstart at bottom of launching ramp at sewage pump buildings, Inchcape Park, Arbroath, at 1525. Was favouring the dark rock armour and is likely to be disturbed by walkers. Remaining a bit away, the bird approached me in its own time. It was reported earlier this week and there's a good strand line to feed on.

Re: DECEMBER 2018 ANGUS BIRD SIGHTINGS

If your not aware there are currently 3 short eared owls at Elliot, Arbroath golf course. The news hasn’t been put out on club AGV after the situation 2 years ago were the birds could hardly feed due to being constantly disturbed. It doesn’t seem as bad this year and it’s fairly common knowledge due to Facebook. If you do go down they can be viewed from the path. If your taking photos, please give the birds time to feed and hunt. Please think of birds welfare.

With that in mind they are great birds to see and wouldn’t want anyone to miss them. I hope you can understand the situation we are in publicising this location.
They can be seen either side of railway line from Elliot car park. They do tend to favour hunting the car park side of the railway line and can be viewed from path by side of golf course. 12-2pm seems a good time to see them.
